Birth of a Salesman
"You can feed yourself for a lifetime when you know how to sell. "
- Brian Brunn, CEO Best Buy
I had a dream today, that reminded me of the things I need to do.
I was on a yacht with Dr Dre (I dont know why, either), and when a rich yacht neighbor came aboard, he pushed me to sell a product to her. So I did. She declined to buy but then praised me on my selling efforts and techniques as that is how her husband made their money.
This is pertinent because I believe one of my most neglected skills is my sales abilities. I once worked in AT&T telemarketing selling calling plans. I did the bare minimum to keep my job, because I hated sales. Amazingly though, when pushed to make quota, I was one of the best sales people there, winning awards and bonuses - all without really trying, and being abjectedly disinterested. But when I am enthusiastic about something, I find I can transfer that enthusiasm. So much so Ive had folk call me "The Persuader" and comments that I should be a luxury-car salesman.
Years ago, I read many books of Harvey Mackay, master envelope salesman of Minnesota and other books on sales, likely because Ive always wanted my own business. And yet, Ive never put myself out there dirtying my hands in the rough world of being a salesperson, for again - Ive been seriously disinterested.
Still, Ive been fascinated by the process, and yet, Ive come to realize it is the core of what I need to do if I want to eat.

Starches for the last
My buffet strategy to get the best value for all you can eat goes like this:
- Hydrate a lot the day before to counteract the salt in the meal.
- Protein, protein protein. Avoid the starch to start as breads and rice fill you up quicker.
- Take sips of water just to cleanse the palate, as too much liquids will just fill and bloat you up.
- You do want the starch, but leave it at the end. You wont be too full to enjoy it and you want to the starch to avoid the post buffet starch craving.
- Leave room for dessert.
Oh yeah, and take your time. Why rush down your food, let it settle. Bring a book or magazine. :)

Once again you are paying too much attention to what others are saying and not enough to what your heart is telling you. You don't need advice or assistance, you just need to listen to and act on your instincts. It shouldn't be too hard.

History Lesson - Hard Rock style
He jumps up on top of the bar and tells the history of the Hard Rock Cafe, making it very entertaining as to why there are music artifacts on the walls of the Cafe's around the world..
It all started with Eric Clapton and his spot in the original London Cafe where he would come for a burger. He would sit in the same spot every time, then he went on a world tour. When he came back, expecting to sit in his same spot, he was told he didnt own that table.
A few days later, a guitar arrived in a box, and Eric Clapton instructed them to put that guitar above his table. Then Richardson from the Who saw the Clapton's guitar, and his ego being such, sent HIS guitar to be put on the wall. Others followed....

Cant happen soon enough
Business is about to take off and move ahead, Virgo, and it’s not too soon, either. By the end of this year, you should see that significant growth has occurred. What’s important now is that you don’t look back; the power is in the present and the future, and you are destined to fulfill all of your dreams over time.

coffeehouse reading
You can find coffee fairly easily in Vegas, but apart from Starbux, it is difficult to find a good neighborhood coffeehouse, and Starbux isnt really that.
That is something I miss from SF.

I spent 7 years in California. I thought because of the poverty, it was stressful. I didnt appreciate that the place itself is extremely stressful. By the time I left, I was an angry mess - not trustful of anyone, feeling out of place. Even when I was doing ok financially - I was still stressed. Before I got to LA, I would wonder why the place was so prone to riots, historically speaking. After living there for several long months, I can attest to a bubbling, seething level of ... hatred... caused by class divisions, racial tensions and historical grudges. No wonder the place goes up in flames periodically.
No wonder I had to get out of there.

A rare event
I won the nearly impossible 4 aces with a low card. Unfortunately I was playing pennies and only betting one at a time, so I only won a little under 7 bux on this hand.
However, I was playing with promotional money so I risked nothing, so it was free cash. :)

Playing with Pennies
Me playing the penny video games. Low risk, low rewards.
Unfortunately, playing the penny slots means you get the smoking penny slot players along with their second hand smoke. Nasty. I have to cash out, get up and find another machine several times. I simply cant breathe.
Totally spoils the fun.

Get your head out of the past and move forward into the future. There’s no time for tears or to think about what your options could have been. The power is in the moment, not what went on weeks, years or even decades ago. Embrace the future, Virgo, an abundance of good times awaits.
I hope so.

Third House dreaming
I havent slept that well in years.
Still, I have a powerful urge to write - but that desire hasnt been matched with the actual writing. Maybe its a diminished attention span, deteriorated skills and having certain people checking up on what Im doing.
But in the recent years, the urge to write is coming back, partially fuelled by the desire to write to help my endeavors in business and photography.
This is a start.

Unfortunately, this was not mine
I sat in the supermarket playing my usual 2 dollars on nickel video poker.
The man walks into the gaming area, finished shopping with his shopping cart. Not bothering to even sit down, he put a five dollar bill into the video poker machine. It spat it back out. Sighing, he put it into the neighboring machine, which it accepted. Selecting the basic quarter Jacks or Better game, he hit deal on a five credit bet.
It gave him a Royal Flush. 4000 credits, or over $1000. On one deal.
I congratulated him, but yes, I was jealous.

Today's Horrorscope sez
It's time to start winging it again! Get back in touch with the unconscious or subliminal forces in your life, because they always push you in the right direction. Act on your impulses, not your conclusions. Right now, moving through your life without thinking too hard about what you are doing might not be such a bad idea. You are used to thinking things through -- and that is certainly wise. But moving forward on a project does not always require a detailed road map.
Wonder if I should take this one seriously?
