Geeked out Ice Cream Vending Machine @ werk
You pick a ice cream bar (my fave: mississippi mud chocolate bar), the freezer lid opens, a robotic arm goes to a bin, a vacuum pump start, it picks up the ice cream bar, it goes over to the exit chute, it stops and drops it.
At work we just stand there and marvel at how it operates.

A Vegas Staycation
Finally got around to it. Oh, so nice. Now I understand why people come to Vegas. :)
I picked a hotel on the strip, found a low price (very low) and booked a few days. Man, I felt so pampered and relaxed at the end of it. And the best part, to go back home, I jumped on a bus and went a mile away. Not having to plan a flight or deal with the hassles of travelling was the absolute icing on the cake.
By comparison, I looked up the cost to go elsewhere - and fleabag motels in LA cost MORE than uberluxury hotels in Vegas right now. Why go anywhere else for a Vacation, eh?
I must do this again.

Janet Airways flight leaving Las Vegas for Area 51
Destination: Groom Lake aka Area 51.
Taxiing from a separate, unmarked but guarded terminal, these plainly marked planes fly Area 51 workers in and out of Vegas airport every morning and evening. As soon as they leave Vegas control, they become military aircraft.

I met a man
Met a Navajo who told me stories of the sweet and ornery nature of wild horses, the deer dance of the Zuni, hunting Elk in the mountains of New Mexico and a deer who laughed at him.
Im glad I met this man.

Dress like a Midwesterner
My extremities were freezing at the bus stop, when I saw a taciturn man buttoned up in a light stormcoat with a fur-trimmed hood, a tam hat, boots and gloves. In Vegas, because of the wide temp swings from day to night, residents here tend to dress on the light side. He wasnt.
The ensemble looked serious - and familiar, particularly the fur-trimmed hood on the coat, even though it was a thin shell. So I asked him: "You from Chicago?" He smiled and said only "Michigan."
Yep, you could tell he was from the upper midwest. Serious people dealing with serious weather. Ironically, his ensemble is suitable only for the midwestern spring, but he wore his togs with the experience of someone who knows the seriousness of a northern midwest winter.
For even the freezing cold isnt all that serious in Vegas.

Writer's gotta write
Oh, yeah - it had talking dogs in a rock band with the hero triumphant playing deathmetal. (Think "Bolt" with Goth characters and roadies.)
Anyway, I told a co-worker and he asked "Do you usually dream this way?". I do, when I sleep deeply, my dreams tend to be structured storylines, not random abstracts, totally unrelated to my life.
"So why dont you write them down?" I shrugged and mumbled something about not really caring. It's not that I dont care, Im just too lazy and too busy to want to write them down. And the reason I dream that way is because I actually THINK in narratives.
My writing has suffered over the years as I now mostly write on twitter and facebook and IMs, in short bursts that actually destroy a narrative. Therefore, Ive taken a hiatus from writing like that (its hard) and try to start writing again. Every day.
It's the doing that make dreams come true.

Sports related injury
How I got Blackberry thumb. To pass time on the commute, I would play the space game in my little Moto Razr. The repetitive movements and pressure messed up the thumb. I stopped over a month ago, and my thumb is still painful, but recovering.

The Woman Who Named Me
Many years ago, as I traipsed around Gotham, Lissa referred to me as being "Itinerant in New York". The moniker stuck. She has a knack for coining memorable phrases.

Dinner reading
Been wanting to get a copy of "Audacity of Hope" and sit down to read for quite awhile. Among other things, I wanted to see what Obama has learned and realized over the years that maybe I am missing.
So far, it is far better when he is talking about his personal views and perspectives. The policy and historical stuff - eh.
