Just finished Jarhead by Anthony Swofford. One of those couldnt-put-it-down-once-I-started books.
Before that, It was "The Natural", by Sam Klein. A tough read, fascinating subject for me.
Before that, there were a bunch of books I started and put down unfinished.
High Fidelity (It didnt grab my attention by chapter 3)
Horse Whisperer (Is the movie THIS *(^$& boring?)
And books by Deepak Chopra (good god, this guy says nothing with an awful lotta words) and Anthony Robbins (REAL GOOD but after awhile the self aggrandizement and constant self-promotion got old).
Anyhoo.. the current one is "Youre Not What I Expected - Breaking the 'He Said-She Said Cycle' "
Normally, I dont read pop-sychology or self-help books, but this one grabbed my attention thusly..
Disillusionment is experienced as grave disappointment in the partner or relationship.
Some people flee from the relationship at the first sign of disillusionment. Other people stay and live in an atmosphere of of unresolved resentments and hurts for many years.
By grace or good luck, a few do seem to recognize the disillusionment as a stage in a process. On their own, they learn to reclaim dream lovers and stop blaming their partners.
Most people, however do not know that disillusionment is a necessary step in developing (hetererosexual) intimacy.
Wow. Then it gets better, about examining expectations, motivations and whatnot.
Im all for that. Using awareness to break down and build back up.
Im all for awareness.
Man, I love this about Berkeley.. Wisdom on the 25 cent book racks..

On deck:
Primary Colors by Anonymous (Sam Klein).
Tropic of Capricorn by Henry Miller
and saving for last - hopefully this one will be as good as Holidays in Hell and Parliament of Whores - CEO of the Sofa by PJ O'Rourke...
Then, I get rid of them.
