Making up time

Ive not
watched much television since the year 2001, so Ive not watched much of what's become much of popular culture.

One of them has been the CIS shows. Apparently they were so big I saw electronic signs in Times Square and Walter Mitty mopes hanging out at Kinkos wishing they were living the CIS life.

And I didnt know what the fuss was about.

Im kinda caught up now, and ive decided.

And Ive decided which one I like...

NCIS.

Particularly because of the character Chief Agent Gibbs.

He's played with a mix acerbic wit and blunt toughness that makes the show.

"Do you believe in Karma, boss?"
"... . I've been married three times."

Heheh.

The rest of them, I still dont get.

While watching NOVA on PBS the other day, I heard a statement made by a young Cal-Berkeley/MIT engineer and roboticist, James McLurkin, that made me snarf in laffter:

"Unrequited love is inefficient."

Ha! I wish Id come to that realization far earlier in adulthood.

But, I never went to MIT. :)

Today's horrorscope:

VIRGO

This weekend heralds the start of a six-week phase during which you will aim higher and achieve more than you might currently think possible. It does not matter what you did or did not do in the past - the only thing that matters is what you do next.

Heh, am I skurred?

Yup.

Fear of failure? Fear of success?

Transcript from the NOVA program:

JAMES MCLURKIN: Failure is key to any learning, creative process. Anything that you're doing, you must fail. If you do not fail, either you were lucky...Well, actually, no, that's it.

ROBERT KRULWICH: But if you're going to fail, you do need to bounce back, and James learned from early on that giving up is not a way to solve your problems.

Fear is just part of the process. So is failure.
