This weekend's horrorscope:
As soon as you wake up this morning, you should look at yourself in the mirror and start a little pep talk. Disturbing dreams, recent setbacks and an overall feeling of listlessness might send you into a temporary blue period today. To shake it, remind yourself that you have abilities no one else has. If you can't convince yourself, call your personal cheerleader -- you know who it's. Get together and share some laughs with friends. Try not to take things too seriously.

Breaking through the shyness barrier
From Beyond Portraiture, probably the best tome about photographing people Ive come across - and after Understanding Exposure, one of the best practical books on photography Ive ever read.
Prompted by I wasn't there. I don't know anyone who was.
I was there.
I left Manhattan at 5am, because a voice in my head told me to go home earlier than I intended. Insistently. I'd normally leave at 8am thru PATH at the WTC station, usually getting back to Jersey at 9.20am. I was awakened by news helicopters at 11am.
My mom walked home over the bridge to brooklyn from Lower Manhattan, covered in dust.
My friends in lower manhattan all got back home safely, including those who worked in the WTC and Financial Center complexes. Either by walking out or by evacuation boats. Many of the pople I rode the Staten Island Ferry with - the boat was a lot emptier in the mornings afterwards.
I got back into Manhattan 5 days later ,when trains and bus services were resumed. I went to Times Square. I smelled burned flesh in the air.
We dont talk about it much.

I swear...
What with the prediliction, marked particularly here in California, of people putting the word "happy" in front of any holiday or event, its gonna be inevitable. Pretty soon, probably in the near future, I am going to hear someone say:
"Happy 9-11!"
Gar.
Hell, Ive already heard "Happy Memorial Day" these past years.
In case people forget, thats a memorial for War dead...
Don't forget.

IF IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY
It may be frustrating that certain events are moving so slowly and it may be tempting to bang a few heads to get things moving again but you will achieve more this year if you slow yourself down rather than try to speed others up. Everything that is meant to happen will happen in its own good time, all you have to do is be patient and be ready to act when the moment arrives.
Eh, prolly make sense to you more tthan me.
Anyway, enjoy your birthday. Say hello to my brother-in-law, my nephew and niece and my cousin.
