Up Market
Being from the left coast, it's still disorienting to realize that to say "Up Market Street" is to mean "Go South". And not just "South" .. but "South EAST".
They say "Down South" for a reason.

s9000 test shot
s9000 test shot
Walking home at midnight, it was dark, illuminated only by streetlight. The sky was so blue, it was blue at midnight.
I wanted to see if the camera could catch this.
Damn. Handheld, even.
A trip back
For the first time in nearly a year, I went across the Bay to Berkeley.
In a way, going to Oakland & Berkeley from San Francisco is akin to travelling between New York to New Jersey. It really isnt that big a deal, as you can cross over the water by bridge, rail, water or bus - and thousands of folk do it daily. But its a barrier and it tends to keep people on their side of the water. Physically and mentally.
In any case, Id meant to go - but could find no compelling reason to make the time or effort. So for the New Year I went to get some ice cream at the Cold Stone Creamery in Berkeley. And go see the place I lived for such a long time.
Interestingly, I went to see the place, but I also got closure.
Not on Berkeley itself, but on people things, ideas. I went by where I had met and hooked up with leGirl, realised the place might be the same, but without her presence, eh.
And with that, a lot of my nostalgia went *poof*.
Time does give you time. Heh.
I sat back with a hard cider, sipped, read and thought.
Thats also when I realised how conducive Berkeley is to thinking, Sounds trite, but it is. The collegial pace, the intellectuals, the students - its a lot different flavor than San Francisco. More peaceful frankly.
For a place that I felt trapped in, I kinda liked being there.
In any case, it was a good little trip. I should do it more often.

Glinessa: lol...ok
JPennant: not "fear and ignorance" :-)
Glinessa: yep
JPennant: Great flick :-)
Glinessa: but that being a fear and a reality for someone else makes me work harder
JPennant: "Not 'fear and arrogance', you hayseed - 'Fear and ARROGANCE' "
Glinessa: i know, i know
JPennant: "I know, I know - Im just fucking with you."

JPennant: hard to do, but does work miracles.
Glinessa: lol
JPennant: I have a couple of things I want to accomplish in 2006
Glinessa: such as?
JPennant: Lose 60 pounds
JPennant: Be more active
Glinessa: ahhh...you can do that
Glinessa: i want to finish losing my weight as well

Glinessa: you happen to live in a walking town...get your ass out and walk
JPennant: and put a book out this year, get over that hurdle
Glinessa: that's how i lost a lot of my weight just walking
Glinessa: yeah...good goal
Glinessa: and drinking a lot of water
JPennant: of course get my prints out and selling, doing more exhiitions and marketing
JPennant: get some of the business nitty gritty down
JPennant: get my passport and license back
Glinessa: ok
JPennant: get the bulk of my schooling finished also.
JPennant: Yeah, that s the bulk of it :-)
Glinessa: lol...you'll have at least that much done by the end of the year
JPennant: Its really not that much
JPennant: It felt harder to do the trips I did last year
JPennant: and get my equipment together
Glinessa: i hear you, but you are working to get a foundation and you're almost there
