The longer I live here, the more I appreciate and the more certain I am that Friscans and folk from the Yay-Yo derive part of their collective self-esteem from how expensive the place is, as if that criteria puts it on a par with New York, London and Paris - even as they bemoan high costs of living here.

Heh, every so often I get the question -

"So, is San Francisco as expensive as New York?"

And I swear, the look of disappointment is real when I tell 'em "No".
