Signs

This hand-written sign posted at the corner of Haste and Telegraph in Berkeley reads:

*WARNING*

To All who owe funds or property to *Jennifer Nicole Pinceti*
aka Jenna, Blast, SciFi, Transmission, Needle (only true one of each)...
Known as a head Raver and Head of Can. Club since 1996.
--------------

Starting with all money 1996 to present on All Rave and Party Groups that owe (legal entry and party fees, no drug money) on affiliations, in bed with and husband agreements, money given to girls that lie, saying they are above me,
(text whited out, think it was meant to be "said they") will pay me and never have and more.
Followed by all Medicinal Marijuana profits owed to me. 1996 to present.

Starting with White boys(men) and their girls who have this money by way of con.artistry, lying, malicious scheming, and worse only because they are too lazy/power hungry/greed to be the right way. Otherwise known as many of the Top Ravers and Heads of Can. (M.M) Clubs in the area.

They must promptly turn over funds and property and get rid of those negligent or start talking about and facing why it has been long agreed upon that how they are stealing this money from me is so evil , they deserve a fate worse than death.

To have their mouths duct-taped, then to be chopped up, to death, very very slowly..

It continues on with ... I dunno, rambles on about corporal and capital punishment, said-mentioned scum fleeing to cops to escape paying up, and claiming no affiliation with anti-government groups and other fine print and disclaimers.

Wow.

If this passionate, frustrated manifesto isnt an archeological document of being a teen/young adult living in Berkeley California (and I used to think growing up in NYC was a harrowing, surreal for the young folk - but Ive heard some first-hand Cali stories that make me wonder... )

By the way, "Can. Club" is short for Cannabis Club, which are essentially legal (I think) places in Cali that dispense marijuana designated as medicinal. The county (San Francisco and Alameda are the only ones Ive heard about) has to issue a card to people qualifying them as eligible for such *coughcough* medicine.

This place is a trip.

Speaking of signs...

A defining characteristic of Berkeley, are the signs, graffitie, bumper-stickers, flyers, placards and.. art.. that are displayed everywhere, no matter that they are constantly being taken down.

Other parts of the Bay share this characteristic, notably San Fran, but probably none to the extent of Berkeley, that takes the concept of free speech and proudly pushes it to the limit.

A small, very small, sampling of this..

As a historical note, the 104.1FM sign was advertising for a guerilla radio station, that operated succesfully for awhile, protesting the refusal of the FCC to give them an operating license in an area where good FM radio spots are hotly contested.

Not long after these placards went up, the black cars and black suits swooped in on a warehouse on the Berkeley/Oakland border...

And there is always more..
